Description

ABSTRACT

Mobile device tracking system is installed in the car, to track the location and locking engine ignition when there is burglar occurrence.

The location of the device is identified using Global Positioning system (GPS) and Global system mobile communication (GSM). These systems constantly watch a moving car and report the status on demand. When the theft identified, the responsible person send SMS to the microcontroller, then microcontroller issue the control signals to stop the engine ignition – when used in the car. The system uses geographic position and time information from the Global Positioning Satellites. The system has an “On- Board Module” which resides in the vehicle to be tracked and a “Base Station” that monitors data from the various vehicles. The On-Board module consists of GPS receiver, a GSM modem.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0                                          INTRODUCTION

1.1                          BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Security, especially theft security of mobile device such as car in their common parking has become a matter of concern. An efficient automotive security system is implemented for anti-theft using an embedded system integrated with Global Positioning System (GPS) interfaced in Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM).This proposed work is an attempt to design and develop a smart anti-theft system that uses GPS and GSM system to prevent theft and to determine the exact location of mobile device – car. The system contains GPS module, GSM modem, 8051 microcontroller.

Global Positioning Satellites (GPS)Ø enable the tracking of all kinds of mobile assets accurately and provide their real time positions to the owners 24 x 7.  GPS provides the latitude/longitudeØ information of the mobile asset a given time; this information can be transmitted to any place using the GSM/GPRS radio link.

GSM (Global System for Mobile communications). GSM is a digital cellular communications system. It is used for transmitting mobile voice and data services. International roaming capability. Better security against fraud

GPS (Global Positioning System) GPS always transmits the data GPS Receiver gets the location information from satellites. GPS TRACKING can be used to track vehicles, equipment, mobile phones, or people.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

There is always a report of snatch or stolen properties such as cars or phones which troubles the owner when it happened. This device was designed to manage properties effortlessly by transforming them into smart device. With this device location of mobile devices snatched or stolen can be traced. This device helps to ensure the safety of properties or devices and also help us to know the location of our devices all time.

1.3                                      RESEARCH GOALS AND OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to develop an affordable integrated monitoring system to ensure our devices or properties security. Our goal is to develop a modular system to maximize system flexibility to best meet the need of properties owners.

1.4                                         SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This device helps properties owners to ensure the safety of their properties and also help them to know the location of their property at all time. The basic system will enable law enforcement to track properties such as vehicle or phones using GPS and GSM as wireless data transfer mechanism that sends data to headquarters and allow to law enforcement.

1.5                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

A module will be developed that will provide co-operate system for identification and tracking of individual properties, including where the properties are.

This research showed that GPS and GSM technology is a practical option for monitoring and tracking properties. The readings were consistent and resulted read ranges that were acceptable within the constraints of locating properties.

GPS based tracker for mobile phones has GPS modem and GSM modem. This project sends SMS to the snatched or missing property. This SMS contains the Longitude and Latitude of the property.

GPS modem continuously sends data string to the microcontroller. This data contains various type of information. It includes Longitude Latitude of the place where project is currently situated. Thus microcontroller gets co-ordinates of the place.

1.6                                          APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

Benefit to parent

  1. This project can be used for vehicles and phones
  2. You can complete traceability of children movement from home to school and back.
  3. You get instant information/Alerts about Arrival at pickup and drop off stops. Boarding and Alighting at school and stops entering and eating school premises.
  4. This project can be used for School bus.
  5. This project can also be used for tracking senior citizens, elderly person in our home.

1.7                           ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT

  1. Stolen vehicle recovery
  2. Monitors all hazards and threats
  • Alert message to mobile phone for remote information
  1. Location of vehicle or object can be determinedØ

1.8                                                        METHODOLOGY

To achieve the aim and objectives of this work, the following are the steps involved:

  1. Study of the previous work on the project so as to improve it efficiency.
  2. Draw a block diagram.
  • Test for continuity of components and devices,
  1. Design and calculation for the device was carried out.
  2. Studying of various component used in circuit.
  3. Construction of the circuit was carried out.
  • Finally, the whole device was cased and final test was carried out.

1.9                                                         PROJECT ORGANISATION

The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work,   chapter two presents the literature review of the study,  chapter three describes the methods applied,  chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
