ABSTRACT

With the rapid growth in technology and adoption of this technology by organizations, many operations have been modified. The adoption of Internet services in recruitment process has led to the replacement of traditional recruitment practice. The traditional way of recruitment practice is labour intensive and delivering human resource management function towards more efficient, cost effective means (technology intensive) has now become the key consideration of the human resource management literature. Many companies providing Human Resource consultancy services have emerged. These bridge the gap between the employers and job-seekers and take up most part of recruitment activities, which are usually initialized and carried out with the help of job sites that are referred to as job portals. The emergence of job portals has greatly helped the aspirants as they can acquire required information to apply for a job in an organization that suits their profile. This study speaks about the perception of job seeker toward e-recruitment through job portals. Also, it throws light on the challenges faced by the applicants during the process of recruitment through job sites or job portals.

1.0                                                              INTRODUCTION

1.1                                                 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Electronic revolution and globalization changed the life of people living in the current epoch. Internet facility has now become the necessity of life and considered as important as other needs for survival. Moreover for competition intention and business performance technological adaptations become inevitable. Internet web grab all information around the world and bring it on to the figure click. As elsewhere Pakistan too is benefited with the internet technology. People used to spend hours on internet either for their work or entertainment. According to the Internet World Stats (2010) approximately 1.85 million people are using the internet in Pakistan which is 10.4% of the total population; certainly, young generation ratio is highest in usage of internet. From the dawn of internet, reported in 1995 (Khan et al., 2011), it has been widely penetrated in social, education, economics and business setting. Hence businesses adopted internet in their business to have an edge in the industry. Particularly, since 2005 firms operating in Nigeria also started to use internet as recruitment source, on the contrary, job seekers also focusing extensively on online job sources to avail the employment opportunities (Khan et al., 2011; Khan, 2011)

E-recruitment or online recruitment is the practice of using technology or web-based resources, in particular, for tasks involved in hiring new personnel. With the rapid growth in technology, the world today is connected despite geographical and cultural barriers. Organizations are no exception and are affected by technological advancement, thus paving way for the emergence of the concept of e-recruitment. Online recruitment makes use of internet to connect organizations and job aspirants across the globe. Recruitment essentially brings talent into the company and the process of e-recruitment has made it easier and hence is being termed as ‘the future of recruitment’. Unlike traditional recruitment, e-recruitment is cost effective, easily accessible and also consumes less time. Applicants have a more streamlined, efficient application process, while employers are able to manage all applications in an efficient manner, while also ensuring skilled candidates are not missed.

1.2                                                       PROBLEM STATEMENT

In the place, job seekers move from one organization to another looking for jobs that suit their field of study, and this is labour intensive.  In current epoch technology integrated the information in a sophisticated manner and has positively influenced this area of job seeking. Hence job seekers are also get benefited with the internet era and start searching the jobs on internet. This study examined the relationship between the recruitment sources, job seekers’ perception and intention to pursue the job.

1.3                                                    OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

1.4                                                         SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this study covers the analysis of how internet is the most preferred source to search the job among other recruitment sources. Furthermore, it is also suggested that the effectiveness of e-recruitment depends upon the placement of advertisement and salary is the most influential motivator to find interest in the job applied. Lastly, statistics of the study found that the recruitment sources and applicant’s perceptions of job significantly influence the intention to pursue the position applied by the job seeker.

1.5                                                        RESEARCH QUESTIONS

At the end of this study answers to the following questions shall be provided:

i.      What is e- recruitment?

ii.     What is the level of acceptance of internet as recruitment source?

iii.   Does e-recruitment effectiveness is depends upon the placement of advertisement?

iv.   How recruitment sources are related with applicant’s perception and intention to pursue the jobs?

1.6                           SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this research work is that it will enable the researcher to understand in full what interest is the use of internet in finding job.

The study will also serve as a means of making job seekers to understand the need for searching for their desired job and also will improve the practice application of the internet service (concept).

To the company (industries), which is marketing firms the research finding and recommendation will enable them to see the real effect of internet as a tool for placing their job vacancies thereby achieving organization objectives (growth).

1.7                                                       RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

Based on research framework following hypotheses are developed for the study.

  1. Ho1: There is no significant association between the employment status of the applicants and their perception of e-recruitment.
  2. Ho2: There is no significant association between the employment status of the applicants and the challenges faced during the process of e-recruitment.

1.8       LIMITATION AND CONSTRAINT TO THE STUDY

This research work is planned to cover a wide area.  However the wide range expected to be covered are limited by major as

  • Insufficient fund to carry out the project work.
  • The research work is hindered by time, insufficient time for student to be able to search for data and gather information for the purpose of this research.
