Description

ABSTRACT

Humans have enjoyed swimming pools for thousands of years, but they haven’t always installed electric lights in them or circulated the water with pumps. Adding those and other electric features makes pools potentially lethal, and more enjoyable. But one of the challenges then was that no one can swim in the night time because of darkness.

Nowadays, an enjoyable and standard swimming pool is the one with a complete electrical installation. The main reasons of installing electricity in swimming pole are for enjoyment, illumination, and beautification.

A standard swimming is the one that have complete electrical installation, which composes of a water pump for automatic pumping or refilling of water to the pool, beautiful lighting fixture for beautification and illumination of the water and pool environment.

1.1      BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Humans have enjoyed swimming pools for thousands of years, but they haven’t always installed electric lights in them or circulated the water with pumps. Adding those and other electric features makes pools potentially lethal, and more enjoyable. But one of the challenges then was that no one can swim in the night time because of darkness (Applebaum, 2015).

Nowadays, an enjoyable and standard swimming pool is the one with a complete electrical installation. The main reasons of installing electricity in swimming pole are for enjoyment, illumination, and beautification (Applebaum, 2015).

The automatic pump pumps the water the pool which reduces the stress of filling and refilling the water by human while the lighting illuminates the water and the environment and also beautifies it.

Light for a swimming pool comprising in combination base means having a supporting surface adapted to directly engage and be supported by a horizontal deck surface at the sides of a swimming pool, means adapted to fixedly secure said base means to said deck surface, said base means comprising a shell adapted to contain a quantity of weight-supplying material adequate to provide desired weight by gravity upon the deck of a swimming pool and having recess formations therein respectively adjacent opposite sides of shell (Picard, 2022).

1.2      STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main reasons of installing electricity in swimming pole are for enjoyment, illumination, and beautification. However, it is quite unfortunate that most aquatic designers have poor knowledge and skills to create a blueprint based on customers’ needs. This study was carried out to expose the designers to electrical knowledge of a swimming pool.

1.3      AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

The main aim of this work is to carry out a study on electrical design and draft of a standard swimming pool. The objectives of the study are:

  1. To provide an electrical knowledge of a swimming pool.
  2. To design an electrical installation of a swimming pool.
  • To list and describe how a swimming pool can be wired electrically.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

This work, as a student has exposed my knowledge on how to install a swimming pool electrically. That is, step by step on how to wire the pump motor, and lighting fixtures.

Apart from the electrical aspect of the knowledge, the study also has made me to understand how swimming pool came to be and the different type of it.

1.5 APPLICATION OF THE STUDY

This study shall be useful to:

  1. aquatic designers
  2. electrical engineers / students
  • swimming pool users and operators.

CHAPTER FIVE

5.1 CONCLUSION

Swimming is a popular summer activity that many people enjoy. Whether you are an athlete or an amateur, swimming can be a great way to relax and have fun with your friends. However, to make the most of your swimming experience, you need to have a comfortable and safe swimming pool environment. This includes the lighting, ventilation, water quality, and other factors that affect your mood and well-being. In this article, we will focus on the lighting aspect and explain why it is important and how to choose the best lighting for your swimming pool.

Lighting is an essential factor that affects your swimming pool experience. It can create different atmospheres, enhance safety, and improve visibility. However, not all lighting is suitable for swimming pools. You need to consider several aspects when choosing the right lighting for your pool, such as:

The time of day you swim

Many swimmers may not have time to swim during the day due to work or school commitments. Therefore, they need adequate lighting at night to enjoy their swimming activity.

The humidity and chlorine levels in the air

The swimming pool environment is more humid than other indoor spaces, which can damage some lighting devices. Moreover, the chlorine used to disinfect the pool water can evaporate into the air and corrode some metal components of the lighting devices. Therefore, you need to choose lighting devices that are waterproof and anti-corrosive.

The reflection and refraction of light by water

Water can bend and bounce light in different directions, which can cause glare and discomfort for swimmers. Therefore, you need to choose lighting devices that have low glare and can direct light to the main area of the pool.

The architectural design and structure of the pool

Some pools may not have strong walls around them to support lighting devices, so you need to install them on the ceiling. However, this can pose a risk of falling or breaking if the lighting devices are too heavy or made of glass. Therefore, you need to choose lighting devices that are lightweight and durable, and provide safety chains or ropes to prevent accidents.

5.2 SUMMARY

Swimming is a fun and healthy activity that many people enjoy in the summer. However, to have a comfortable and safe swimming experience, you need to have a good lighting environment for your pool. Lighting can affect your mood, visibility, and well-being when swimming. Therefore, you should choose the best lighting devices for your pool that have high lighting efficacy, excellent glare control, strong anti-corrosion, and safe installation solution. By doing so, you can make the most of your swimming pool and provide a wonderful time for your customers.

The electrical equipment for swimming pools must be grounded and connected by wiring methods in accordance with the NFPA 70 National Electric Code®. In addition to grounding, bonding is required to get all metal parts of the electrical equipment and the non-electrical metal parts of the pool/spa structure to attain equal electrical potential. Because the combination of water and electricity can be fatal, it is important to remember and adhere to all safety concerns and practices. Home inspectors should advise homeowners to consult or hire an electrician instead of doing any electrical work themselves.
