Description
ABSTRACT
Technology plays the major role in healthcare not only for sensory devices but also in communication, recording and display device. It is very important to monitor various medical parameters and post operational days. Hence the latest trend in Healthcare communication method using IOT is adapted. Internet of things serves as a catalyst for the healthcare and plays prominent role in wide range of healthcare applications. In this project the PIC18F46K22 microcontroller is used as a gateway to communicate to the various sensors such as temperature sensor and pulse oximeter sensor. The microcontroller picks up the sensor data and sends it to the network through Wi-Fi and hence provides real time monitoring of the health care parameters for doctors. The data can be accessed anytime by the doctor wirelessly. The controller is also connected with buzzer to alert the caretaker about variation in sensor output. But the major issue in remote patient monitoring system is that the data as to be securely transmitted to the destination end and provision is made to allow only authorized user to access the data. The security issue is been addressed by transmitting the data through the password protected Wi-Fi module ESP8266 which will be encrypted by standard AES128 and the users/doctor can access the data by logging to the html webpage. At the time of extremity situation alert message is sent to the doctor through GSM module connected to the controller. Hence quick provisional medication can be easily done by this system. This system is efficient with low power consumption capability, easy setup, high performance and time to timeresponse.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Today Internet has become one of the important parts of our daily life.It has changed how people live, work, play and learn. Internet serves for many purpose educations, finance, Business, Industries Entertainment, Social Networking,Shopping,E-Commerce etc. The next new mega trend of Internet is Internet of Things(IOT).Visualizing a world where several object scan sense, communicate and share information over a Private Internet Protocol (IP) or Public Networks. The interconnected objects collect the data at regular intervals, analyse and used to initiate required action, providing an intelligent network for analyzing, planning and decision making. This is the world of the Internet of Things (IOT).The IOTis generally considered as connecting objects to the Internet and using that connection for control of those objects or remote monitoring. But this definition was referred only to part of IOT evolution considering the machine to machine market today. But actual definition of IOT is creating abrilliant, invisible network which can be sensed, controlled and programmed. The products developed based on IOT include embedded technology which allows them to exchange information, with each other or the Internet and it is assessed that about 8 to 50 billion devices will be connected by 2020.Since these devices come online, they provide better life style, create safer and more engaged communities and revolutionized healthcare. The entire concept of IOT stands on sensors, gateway and wireless network which enable users to communicate and access the application/information. Be that as it may, among all the regions no place does the IOT of fer more prominent guarantee than in the field of health awareness. As a saying goes “Health is wealth” it is exceptionally crucial to make utilization of the innovation for better well being. Consequently it is obliged to add to an IOT framework which gives secure health awareness checking. So outlining a savvy medicinal services framework where client information is gotten by the sensor and sent to the cloud through Wi-Fi and permitting just approved clients to get to the information.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
The traditional method of monitoring the health condition of patients in hospital is by employing health personnel to monitor patients according to time schedule which was seen inefficient, tedious and time consuming. Remote health monitoring has gained momentum due to the COVID-19 pandemic which was designed to solve this problem. The monitoring system comprise of web server part: The sensor network in which the sensor nodes are equipped with different biometric sensors, sensor data will be regularly transferred to hospital database from which it is upload to hospital’s webserver continuously. With this device doctor can monitor the patient condition from any place.
1.3 AIM OF THE PROJECT
The main aim of this work is to develop a cheap prototype of a system that can monitor the health status of a patient at home and in the hospital.
1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
- To build the system prototype
- To use temperature sensor to measure body temperature
- To use heartbeat temperature to measure rate of heartbeat
- To compute the two signals then display to a LCD and send to mobile phone as a SMS.
- To alert through text when there is an abnormal parameter of a patient
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
This system will enable doctors to monitor their patient’s health conditions wirelessly by giving doctors calls when patients’ body temperature and heart beat rises so that they can take precautionary measures. This device measures even in remote places. Patient care takers can monitor the equipment easily.
1.6 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The scope of this work covers building a reconfigurable sensor network for structural health monitoring. Real-time and periodic structural health monitoring can reduce the probability of collapse and the consequences of potential life-threatening conditions. Computer communication systems and Internet plays an important role in this study. Biosensors interfaced with the microcontroller will monitor patient’s vital health. If any of the sensor’s preset threshold value is exceeded beneath, an SMS will be sent to doctor and the patient’s caretaker.
1.7 BENEFIT OF THE STUDY
Benefits of this device includes its ability to relieve health authorities of huge cost pressures.
1.8 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
- The initial cost of the device is expensive.
- Accumulation of noise with ECG signal.
- Telecommunication network unavailability can affect the signal of the device.
- Interference of noise in GSM modem due to high Radio frequency signals.
- Accuracy will be less.
- The user and control unit will establish communication via GSM.
- The cell phone and service provider chosen will support text messaging service.
- The user is familiar with the text messaging program on their cell phone.
- All service charges from service provider apply.
1.9 APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT
- This project can be used in home for patients, ill person or old person to monitor their health parameters.
- Same project can be used in hospitals.
1.10 JUSTIFICATION
This project is made of cheap materials. A complete system that measures temperature and heart beat is so far expensive. This system is fully automated system and does not require any human attention.
Automatic alert system using enabled by microcontroller gives intimation to user. GSM interfacing provides a feature of remote monitoring of patient parameters. The system determines the heart beat rate per minute and then sends short message service (SMS) alert to the mobile phone on top of displaying it on a LCD. It is also cost effective and portable. It is easy to handle and efficient. It is not as complex as the current systems.
1.11 PROJECT ORGANISATION
The work is organized as follows: chapter one discuses the introductory part of the work, chapter two presents the literature review of the study, chapter three describes the methods applied, chapter four discusses the results of the work, chapter five summarizes the research outcomes and the recommendations.
