Description
ABSTRACT
This work presents a portable solar powered dc washing machine. The construction of the machine satisfy the current trend towards portable, renewable sourced powered, energy saved, lightweight full-feature washing machine.
Washing machine is defined as a device which is use to wash various type of cloths without applying any physical effort. This method is provides a simple washing machine designed for cleaning few cloths. This technique is use for describe a cleaning, developing a cleaning process, integrating the process, selecting and sizing appropriate cleaning equipment. The main purpose to of the work is to develop a small, efficient, energy and time saving washing machine. For portable we replace the existing heavy, large and inefficient parts for small sized components of washing machine. The design based method reduces instability and it’s cost effective. By use of this machine, a person can spend extra time on other important work or generating income.
Statement of the problem
Laundry washing involves immersing, dipping, rubbing, or scrubbing in water, usually accompanied by soap, detergent, or bleach. Cloth washing is an essential part of human life. However, it involves considerable time, effort, and energy, which may be sometimes considered undesirable. Prior to the use of washing machines to wash cloths, clothes are washed by laboriously scrubbing each section of cloth over a cement washboard or flat stone with hands immersed in detergents or soda soap that are harmful to the skin, for this purpose the first washing machine was invented in other to reduce human labour involved in washing (Berardinis., 2021). Traditional washing machine which is an AC washing machine still has numerous limitations such as – it is bulky and also consumes much energy (Kovich, 2014). As renewable energy is spreading all over the world, it is very difficult integrate a renewable source to an Ac powered washing machine. In other to solve these problems, a dc powered washing machine is fabricated. This type of washing machine makes use of DC as a source of power supply. In this case, battery or renewable energy sources can be used to power the machine which makes the machine consume lesser energy than the traditional washing machine.
Aim and objectives of the study
The aim of this work is to fabricate a dc washing machine using available materials.
- To build a dc washing machine prototype
- To provide a means of powering a washing machine using dc sources
- To save energy
Scope of the study
A washing machine is a mechanism designed to wash laundry, such as clothing, towels, and sheets. The scope of this work covers building a washing machine uses Direct Current (DC) electricity to power its operations, unlike traditional AC (Alternating Current) washing machines. DC washing machines offer improved energy efficiency, quieter operation, and enhanced durability.
Significance of the study
This work will serve as a means of providing an energy saved device which can be used in our homes and also for commercial purposes.
This study will serve as a means of learning how to integrate renewable energy source to our home appliances.
In this machine, during power failure, the battery backup will be initiated to complete the washing operation. Therefore, using a dc source in a washing machine will promote the efficient use of the device.
Definition of terms
DIRECT CURRENT (DC): is an electric current that is uni-directional, so the flow of charge is always in the same direction. As opposed to alternating current, the direction and amperage of direct currents do not change. It is used in many household electronics and in all devices that use batteries.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY: is a type of electrical battery which can be charged, discharged into a load, and recharged many times, as opposed to a disposable or primary battery, which is supplied fully charged and discarded after use.
WASHING MACHINE: is a machine designed to launder clothing. Modern-day home appliances use electric power to automatically clean clothes.
CHAPTER FIVE
5.0 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
5.1 CONCLUSION
A washing machine also known as a washer is a machine that washes dirty clothes. It contains a barrel into which the clothes are placed. This barrel is filled with water, and then rotated very quickly by the use of a motor to make the water remove dirt from the clothes.
This work focused on design and fabrication of a dc washing machine, with emphasis on lightweight, portable appliances. It has been concluded that rotational slip can be a major problem if the washer centre of mass is not on the plane of rotation of the laundry mass .The threshold speed for impending walk is then that of translational slip. Next, a design based stabilization method was introduced.
5.2 RECOMMENDATION
Expansion of machine capacity:
Increasing the machine capacity may be advantageous in reducing the time of washing operation. But, it doesn’t work well in case of spinning operation. Damage of drum may occur if the spinning is done with higher loads. It should be done in turns to prevent damage to the machine.
Charging of batteries:
Charging of battery: Charging of the battery may be slow, therefore additional panel is required to have a fast charging process.
