As our world evolves, we find that with each passing day, our need for electricity grows stronger, as there are more things we can’t get done without it. Likewise, our need for an extension socket. A single socket usually has one, two, or three plug outlets which allows a plug-in of two or three devices at a time. But when you have a socket with only one outlet and you need to connect about four different devices at a time, an extension socket or box is needed. With that said, the importance of the knowledge embedded in this work cannot be overemphasized.

In this work, we’ll run you through some steps on how to build an electrical outlet extension box (that comprises of overload and surge protecting device) on your own, and save yourself some extra expenses.

1.0                                                        INTRODUCTION
1.1                                           BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Extension sockets are built in an extension box, which makes use of electricity in our homes, offices and various other places convenient. We would be constructing an electrical extension with the following equipment; screw-driver, nails and screws, wooden plank, flexible wire, etc.

When electricity gets to our homes, our electrical devices and appliances make use of it by plugging into a mains supply normally rated 220-240v, 50Hz. A single socket usually has one, two or three plug outlets which has the advantage of being able to plug in two or three devices at a time. But when you have a socket with only one outlet and you need to connect about four different devices at a time, we make use of an extension sockets box. With that said, the importance of this experiment cannot be stressed enough. This device serves as a multi-extension box as well as protection against surge and overload

1.2      PROBLEM STATEMENT

Conventional extensions come only with one purpose – to extend a power source to a remote area. They do not have the capacity to protect devices from surge and do not have the ability to cutoff when they are overloaded or to prevent electrical damage or even short circuits and fires. This work was carried out to overcome these problems. This work was carried out to build an extension box that can accept different types of electrical plug as well as protection against surge and overload. The purpose of the incorporated protective device is to surge protective device that plays an integral part in improving the operability and reliability of appliances and its components. Some appliances are capable of drawing in heavy currents, it is essential to build in surge protection to prevent electrical damage or even short circuits and fires.

The advantage of this device is to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. A surge protector attempts to limit the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or shorting to ground any unwanted voltages above a safe threshold.

1.3      AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main aim of this work is to build an electrical outlet extension box. The objectives of the study are:

  1. To build an electrical outlet extension box using available material
  2. To have an extension box that can accept different types of plug outlets
  • To save the cost of buying new extension
  1. To protect equipment against surge and overload

1.4      SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this work covers building an electrical outletextension box using available materials. This device has the ability to accept different electrical plug outlets. The device is used for both indoor or outdoor purposes. It serves the purpose of a multi-socket as well as protection against surge and overload.

The device uses a Good, safe and reliable pure copper power cord. Uses advanced eco-friendly materials and uses high quality phosphor sheet with good conductivity, flexibility and lower temperature. Stable base, enough space between sockets and more convenient than conventional sockets. It has Individual switches, LED indicators and safety protection for electrical equipment.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

An electrical outlet extension box helps to extend a power source to a remote area. It gives someone freedom to install/use different electrical appliances wherever you need them. It serves the purpose of a an electrical outletextension box as well as protection against surge/overload.
